It always fascinates me to learn how artists find their way in the world. Today’s featured artist Shellie Mitchell used her circumstance as inspriation and motivation. She took chances, strayed outside the realm of what is thought of as “traditional” art and paved her own path. Or rather, she covered that path with fabric and allowed herself to flourish. Yay Shellie! I admire you!

Shellie’s technique results in artwork that you cannot take your eyes off of. And then, when you do and look back, you see something new. She has a great eye for color, story, texture, composition and emotion. Not many people can successfully combine these elements into something “right”. Just one look lets you know that you’ve come across something pretty special. And I can’t imagine what one of her pieces looks like in person. (My painting teacher – Prof. Stomps would have loved you!)
